Jen’s parents threw a pretty awesome party to celebrate her lung transplant this weekend. It was pretty hot and there were a ton of kids, but luckily there was a huge inflatable bouncy thing for the kids to rock out in. Apparently one of Jen’s second cousins thought it was all a little too childish.

These are some shots I found from the summer of 2003. These little houses, if you can call them that, are scattered all over certain parts of New Mexico. They used to be homestead farms and grazing land that was either abandoned and absorbed by the state or bought up by surrounding farms. I’m not sure about the age of these houses, but I can imagine many of them being over 150 years old. The lack of rain really preserves wood and masonry.

This next shot is from my father’s front yard… lucky man.

In my ongoing documentation of the views out hospital windows, I’d like to share with you some shots out the window of University Hospital in Clifton. These shots reaffirm my belief in old lenses with wide apertures. There’s nothing wrong with a little chromatic abberation… sometimes. Anyway, if you guys know what these buildings house, please let me know in the comments. The light was great on this first shot.

This next one is just for fun. It reminded me of a Cingular commercial or AT&T or whatever the company is called now. “More bars in more places.”

I used to wear hats everyday. I loved all my hats, each and every worn out, stinky one of them. But long term relationships involve compromise, and it was pointed out to me by my girlfriend (at first gently, then more firmly) that I look like a jackass in hats. I also have a fondness for swing dancing and I’m in the newspaper industry, so needless to say, I love “newsboy” hats more than anything. I also hate it when people call them “newsboy” hats. In actuality, they are “Ivy” hats, but no one knows what the hell you are talking about when you call it that. I have also discovered that the only people who ever told me they liked my Ivy hat were girls, who subsiquently took my hat and wore it themselves. They liked my hat as a hat, not on me. Most girls think they look cute in my hat, perhaps more cute than I do in it. And most girls are right. Julia tried it on and we did some shots with it. The hat is magical, it transforms people, it takes years off your appearance… if your a girl.

If you’re a photo geek, this was shot on my D700 with my favorite lens. The 50mm f/1.2 at 1.2 is HOT. That wafer-thin (in a Money Python accent) depth-of-field is almost impossible to reproduce with any other lens. My crappy vision and the manual focus makes it a tough nut to crack. This lens is what people wish they were buying when they buy a Lens Baby, HAHA!

Sorry for the absence, faithful readers. I’ve been sitting on a couple projects waiting for them to be published, and one of them was set loose on the world today. Here’s the background: the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) holds an all-ages, all orientations prom every year in the Spring.

While I was there, I met some of most interesting, brave and inspiring people, I’ve ever met. Christopher, who you’ll meet in the piece, was articulate and mature, and Katie was very down to earth and not afraid to take action.

I’ve written about prom before and how absolutely silly and drama-filled they can be, but this wasn’t that way. It was cool. And while the last prom I went to was with my current girlfriend (of eight years this last Sunday). The idea of prom seems to get a little out of control. I could go on an on about the characters and the atmosphere, but hopefully it all comes across in the story.

I’m craving some comments and feedback… TALK TO ME PEOPLE!
