Queen City Discovery
Queen City Discovery was created by Ronny Salerno as a platform for urban exploration and documenting what makes Cincinnati and the Midwest special. I joined the effort in 2013 and have taken on several projects with Salerno, including documenting the abandoned Comair terminal at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.
One of my favorite projects was covering an abandoned water park in Indianapolis called Thunder Island. The overgrown, murky pools stood a stone’s throw from a major road, but were completely hidden from view.
We also visited an abandoned stretch of railway that is the subject of debate between light rail advocates and bicycle commuters. The line could be redeveloped for either purpose. It’s a rare occasion that these people who usually stand together find themselves on opposite sides of an argument.
